About this continent

For this project, we focused on 18 endangered bird species from Asia. This continent is incredibly diverse, with a wide range of climates from tropical forests to high mountain regions, and this variety is reflected in the birds that live here. Many species face threats from habitat loss, hunting, and the illegal wildlife trade, which makes their conservation especially important. Asia is also home to some of the world’s most unique and colorful birds. On this page, you can explore the illustrations of these species along with information about their habitats, behaviors, and conservation status.

Bali Myna

WHY THEY'RE ENDANGERED?

Bali mynas are endangered mainly because people illegally trap them for the pet trade. Their bright white feathers make them popular and valuable, so many are taken from the wild. On top of that, their natural habitat is getting smaller and more damaged, which makes it even harder for the remaining birds to survive. These two problems together have caused their numbers to drop a lot.

WHERE THEY LIVE?

They’re only found in the forests of Bali, Indonesia, and nowhere else in the world.

According to a 2025 Karmactive article, the wild population is now estimated at 50–100 individuals.
